A mountain cable car institution bows its way out of St. Anton am Arlberg/Tyrol ski resort after 40 years of faithful service. The Schindlergrat chairlift, famous for its spectacular views, is being replaced by a state-of-the-art 10-seater gondola lift in time for the 2019/20 winter season. The ingenious aspect: by using the same routing, guests will have the opportunity to get off at the same level as the previous mountain station in future. Those who remain seated, however, will reach the terminus 420 metres further northeast, where the Schindlerkar, Mattun or Valfagehr runs can be skied.
Thanks to this, visitors to the birthplace of alpine skiing gain not only piste diversity, but also enhanced comfort, as the new Schindlergratbahn with 68 cabins has a conveyance capacity of 2,800 passengers per hour. St. Anton am Arlberg is one of the world’s most renowned winter sports resorts. Snow hungry skiers and freeride fans from over 50 nations visit this mountain village and ski area with a total of 305 kilometres of marked runs, 200 kilometres of freeride terrain and 88 lift and cable car systems every year. The Arlberg-Arena extends from St. Anton in Tyrol to Lech and Zürs, as well as Warth and Schröcken in Vorarlberg. Cross-country skiing, tobogganing or a tour of Tyrol’s only winter via ferrate route are just as much part of the Arlberg experience as the incredible events, some of which have already achieved cult status, and the multi-award winning Tyrolean cuisine. The “birthplace of alpine skiing” is also a founding member of the “Best of the Alps“; a quality association of the thirteen most prestigious mountain resorts in the Alps.
